August 1, 2023 - Part B

Vlog #345 is the second part of a trip I took into a local wilderness area to chase Wyoming cutthroat trout. In Part A, I hiked into the wilderness area, and started fishing upstream. I started out using the Nissin Air Stage Fujiryu 410 5:5 but a breeze and strong fish made me change to the Air Stage Fujiryu 410 6:4. I fished that rod the remainder of the day. The line I used was a 3.5-3.0 tapered fluorocarbon line in a length ratio of 80/20. This worked well with the big ASF 6:4.

The stream is a mountain freestone that winds its way through an open mountain glacial valley. The scenery was incredible and the fishing was pretty good as well. I wore the La Sportiva TX Canyon Approach boots, and these did great in both hiking and fishing.

In Part B, I work my way further upstream, taking trout in riffles and heads of runs and pools. The fish were strong and beautiful and readily took kebari, if they were presented properly.

I've fished this creek further downstream a couple of times, but I always wanted to fish it up further in the  wilderness area. This year I finally made it, and the creek didn't disappoint. I'll be back next year to further explore this enchanting creek, and to exercise its cutthroat trout.
