If we are fit fishing using a slightly different method than those who choose to use multiple flies and differing fixed length rods are fishing Tenkara. I'm sorrybut in my humble opinion the two of these are one in the same. Tenkarameans from heaven if I remember correctly, so this should mean it gives us joy and peace. This can't be acomplished if we are constantly bickering back and forth. I for one am still working on finding my own personal Tenkara, and plan on enjoying it very much no matter what others think. I hope we can get over this and work more towards usingthe valuable tool of Tenkara to bring more people into fly fishing. End of rant thanks Tom.

BrandonMoonlit Fly Fishing https://www.blogger.com/profile/05431060150320914222noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4952460912398461727.post-11763069362290358082013-03-07T18:30:41.826-08:002013-03-07T18:30:41.826-08:00Amen, Karel. The word was used on Fly Anglers Online where someone linked to your blog and that is how I arrived here. 8-)

Other than for a couple of too vocal people that say their way or the highway, kind of like what the word fad was 2 years ago, I think 98% of us are all on the same page and just like fishing.

I think our tenkara world is fine and we can all just get out an fish and share stories of our catches, or not so good of days, and move forward.

Thanks for sharing with us.

TJTJ Ferreiranoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4952460912398461727.post-49504192535532921882013-03-07T16:19:42.906-08:002013-03-07T16:19:42.906-08:00Thanks Tom. I hope this is all just a form of cabin fever and will disappear once Spring is here and everybody gets their fill of time on the river.

This bickering and rudeness of some folks does not help the reputation of tenkara. I think this recurring discussion that happens on various forums is just silly. I have always heard Daniel say "find your own tenkara", and I fully support that thought.

BTW, I can't see where I used the word "purist" in my blog post. It is too divisive of a word and only inflames. Maybe it's implied in my writing, and if it is and is offensive to anyone, I apologize. It is not my intent to offend, only to point out that we are all in this together and share a wonderful form of true fly fishing.

Thanks for your comments.

-TomTom Davishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18240935660681343164noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4952460912398461727.post-62014578067318536362013-03-07T13:29:32.456-08:002013-03-07T13:29:32.456-08:00"Well, fly fishing hell and tenkara hell are ..."Well, fly fishing hell and tenkara hell are just going to have to share me, that all there is too it."

I choose curtain #2, Tenkara Hell. At least hell down there is like it from heaven.

8-)

I think I have only seen 1 or 2 real purists (as you say) on twitter feeds saying this is or this is not tenkara, and are being anal about it. I think the folks you mention above all state tenkara is whatever you want it to be, fish how you want to fish, and enjoy it.

I feel if folks just get out and fish, that is all we need.

I work at Tenkara USA and often fish in my local ponds for panfish during the off-season. Do you think Daniel and John my co-worker tell me this is not tenkara? Never happened, never will.

All I get is cheers from my peers and friends every time I get out and fish, and if I catch a sunfish or bass or trout, they offer their kudos and tell me nice job.

That is how I see all of this.

Find your own tenkara. If that means a stick from your backyard with a rope tied to the end of it and a nail bent to look like the letter J, none of us will look at you any different. I know I won't.

TJTJ Ferreiranoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4952460912398461727.post-60111454641668050582013-03-07T06:02:58.068-08:002013-03-07T06:02:58.068-08:00Thank you, Gerardo.

I bet the same discussion will come up again and again over the next few years. This has been its MO of the past few. BTW, welcome to tenkara. Make it what you want it to be. One fly -- great. Any fly -- great. Just enjoy it for what it is -- a fun time fishing!

-Tom
Tom Davishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18240935660681343164noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4952460912398461727.post-30881615344318436542013-03-07T02:12:09.806-08:002013-03-07T02:12:09.806-08:00I agree with where you stand on the issue, and tha...I agree with where you stand on the issue, and that we have greater concerns than "what is tenkara?". I do not know if my post was actually what started this discussion again, I have only a few regular readers. I was posting my findings for my buddies. I wouldn't have guessed at what was going to play out, I figured it was more or less over.
