As I mentioned, I have been fishing unweighted flies, but winter may be the time to go beyond that.
JohnAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4952460912398461727.post-14967254080270076862015-12-04T17:58:11.295-08:002015-12-04T17:58:11.295-08:00My only suggestion is to go, as Chris Stewart says...My only suggestion is to go, as Chris Stewart says, low and slow (fish deep with weighted flies). In winter, in freestone streams, you have to put the fly right on the trout's nose. As you see, I fish mainly bead heads in winter. Tailwaters are different since their temperatures are more stable. You explained that you mostly targeted browns in the winter because they are more temp tolerant. But you're getting some good bows in the review (later later reviews). Any hints on how you're getting them? Of course, you're using the bloody prince, and I've been using unweighted flies; that could be the problem :)
- John (really enjoy your blog!)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4952460912398461727.post-44149889734073497592015-11-20T14:37:54.626-08:002015-11-20T14:37:54.626-08:00Thanks so much! I really enjoy your White Takayama variant video - easy to watch, and it forced me into learning how to use a dubbing loop, which after awhile, gets easier and more fun.

-Stevebolder_in_boulderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18346015135119186702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4952460912398461727.post-20234973346959816152015-11-19T14:42:37.935-08:002015-11-19T14:42:37.935-08:00Hi Steve,

I've never dealt with tying on that style of hook, so I looked (in vain) through all your (many, many!) Youtube videos to see if you had filmed the tying of one. Did I miss it?
Thanks,
Steve bolder_in_boulderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18346015135119186702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4952460912398461727.post-39883998126572726862015-11-15T06:06:41.878-08:002015-11-15T06:06:41.878-08:00Thanks, Adam. Thanks, Adam.Tom Davishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18240935660681343164noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4952460912398461727.post-53882460251961758852015-11-15T06:06:25.375-08:002015-11-15T06:06:25.375-08:00No pressure point. If its wiggling a lot then turn it upside down and the fish will quiet down. Otherwise just use light pressure and little contact.Tom Davishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18240935660681343164noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4952460912398461727.post-91790107658355499542015-11-15T05:43:27.613-08:002015-11-15T05:43:27.613-08:00Great write up, beautiful cutt in the video!Great write up, beautiful cutt in the video!Klagshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13404953454187858180noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4952460912398461727.post-19307892046188328992015-11-14T21:34:48.656-08:002015-11-14T21:34:48.656-08:00The fish always seem to behave so well for you whe...The fish always seem to behave so well for you when you hold them, is there a pressure point trick to that?Brent A.https://www.blogger.com/profile/11937043824055750775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4952460912398461727.post-67789920676739842952015-11-14T17:32:46.686-08:002015-11-14T17:32:46.686-08:00I think that rod will make it into my more perman...I think that rod will make it into my more permanent quiver.

That fly is my version of the Bloody Prince. Will this rod make it into your semi-permanent quiver along the lines of the zerosum?

I really like the look of the jig head nymph in the first image. Do you have a recipe for that or a link to a recipe?

Thanks again.
