I fished a little on the day before the winter solstice. A storm front was coming in at the time. When I started it was 40°F, but about 20 minutes in it dropped to 31°F and the snow started to fall.
The water level was still high for this time of year, making fishing the center of the stream more difficult. The shallower water near the edges yielded up most of the fish. All browns; I might have hooked a cutthroat, but it got off before I could clearly identify it.
It was a good afternoon. I did loose a lot of flies to the trees though!
