Tenkara, June 23, 2017

I fished a small mountain stream yesterday and videoed the outing. I used my 3rd person view set up to video. I like the results of using this set up, but it's a pain to fish with.

I used the Nissin Zerosum 360 7:3, a 9' #3 line, 2.5 feet of 5.5X tippet and two flies. The flies were a #10 redhead Oxford wool sakasa kebari and a #10 UKB. I changed to the UKB when the Oxford kebari broke off.

Here's the video. I hope you like it.

    1. I almost always use an orange line and to the end I tie 4-6 inches of green 10 lb. Amnesia. I then tie in a tippet ring. I tie my tippet to the ring.

  3. Hi Tom,,
I just wanted to say thanks for all the video footage and reviews that you post. I was looking to get back into fly fishing for a while and Tenkara was a new concept for me. I like small stream fishing so it seemed like the perfect approach. After reading you review of the TUSA RHODO, I thought that that might be the best choice. I ordered one and tried it out in early spring with no success. I kept trying with little success each time I went out, so I got boated of trying and got a new UL fenwick eagle spinning rod to replace the eagle claw I lost on a day streamside trying to practice with the Tenkara. I found a new creek recently that has been producing beautiful wild browns on the spinning rod, but I had a feeling that this creek would be ideal for tenkara; I watch a lot of your videos and am beginning to get a better sense of good trout waters. I decided that it was time to take the RHODO out for another try. What a cool experience to hook into a fish with this type of gear. The rod handled flawlessly with a healthy and fat 11inch wild brown on the end of the line. Not the biggest trout that I've pulled out of that creek but it's the first on a fly ever. It was Awesome! Thanks again for your passion for the sport and getting the successes you've had out for us newbies to see so we don't give up. My profile pic is this mornings success.
    Regards,

  4. Tom -
I am new to Tenkara. I have really appreciated your blog/videos - very informative and entertaining. As a newcomer, I was wondering if you would recommend using a furled or level line to start? Do you have recommendations for either or both? Thanks again. Jason

  5. Love my Rhodo. Being able to collapse it down in tight spots it perfect. Absolutely love it for dry fly fishing. Very delicate presentation. Tight lines!
