I was able to get away for a few hours this past Tuesday and go fishing. The water flow was low at 95 cfs which was a little surprising to me. We've had some rain lately, on top of all the snow from this winter, and so I thought the river would start to rise some. It hadn't.

I fished with a two fly combination; a #12 pheasant tail sakasa kebari as the anchor fly, and off its hook bend a #18 hares ear nymph as the point fly. Neither fly was weighted, since the water was so low.

I worked my way upstream, as is usual for me, taking browns and the occasional rainbow. Most of the fish were holding in the deeper riffles. They took the kebari and the hares ear about equally.

After about an hour, and a number of fish, I went home to warm up. I'm hoping the flows come up into the 125-150 cfs range in the next week or so. I think that would help make the fish less skittish.

  1. What is that lime green line holder you’re using? Never seen that design before—looks interesting.
